About This Legacy APFT Calculator

The Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT), often called the Army PFT, preceded the six-event ACFT and today's five-event AFT. It scored three events in order: two minutes of push-ups, two minutes of sit-ups and a timed two-mile run. This calculator is retained for old scorecards, records research and “what would my APFT score have been?” comparisons. It cannot determine current Army fitness-test status.

How Historical APFT Scoring Worked

Select the age group and sex recorded for the test date, then enter the correctly counted repetitions and recorded run time. The calculator performs direct lookups against the legacy point tables; it does not interpolate between the 60- and 100-point marks. Each event contributes 0–100 official points. A standard passing result required at least 60 points in every event and at least 180 total points. The official maximum was 300; unofficial “extended scale” scores are intentionally not calculated here.

For a run time between two listed point values, the lower point value applies. In practical terms, a time such as 15:55 is scored at the next slower published six-second threshold, not rounded in the Soldier's favor.

APFT 60- and 100-Point Standards by Age

The compact table shows the raw result needed for 60 points and 100 points. “PU” means push-ups, “SU” means sit-ups and “2MR” means the two-mile run. These are historical standards, not current AFT minimums.

AgeMale PU
60 / 100
Female PU
60 / 100
SU
60 / 100
Male 2MR
60 / 100
Female 2MR
60 / 100

Worked APFT Score Example

A 20-year-old male with 42 push-ups, 53 sit-ups and a 15:54 two-mile run receives 60 points in each event, for 180 total. That result met the ordinary historical minimum because no event was below 60. A total above 180 could still fail if even one event was below its 60-point floor.

Historical Source and Version

This page implements the age- and sex-based APFT structure described in FM 7-22, Appendix A (Army Physical Fitness Test), including the 60-point event minimum, 180-point total and 300-point official maximum. The scoring tables correspond to the legacy DA Form 705 point scales. Because the APFT is discontinued, use the test date and original scorecard when resolving an administrative record.
