Plank Calculator — AFT Core Plank Duration Score
Enter your plank duration, age group, and sex to calculate points from the Army scoring scales effective June 1, 2025.
Plank Scoring Table
| Age | Men 60 | Men ≥70 | Men 100 | Women 60 | Women ≥70 | Women 100 |
|---|
The table is generated from the Army’s official AFT scoring scales. The ≥70 values are the first published thresholds worth at least 70 points; Combat passing is 350 total points with at least 60 in every performed event.
Official AFT Plank Test Execution & Form Standards
The plank measures isometric trunk endurance. During a record event, the Soldier must follow the authorized starting position and grader commands and maintain the required body position for the recorded duration.
Why Core Isometric Endurance Matters on the Battlefield
The plank evaluates the ability to maintain a braced trunk without movement. That quality supports load carriage, lifting, and body control, but the calculator’s result is limited to the official event score; it should not be treated as a diagnosis of back health or overall readiness.
Plank Pacing and Mental Conditioning Strategy
For practice, use a time target tied to your own scoring row rather than a universal maximum. Record clean holds, stop when form cannot be maintained, and increase duration progressively. The calculator can show the next scoring threshold, which is more useful than guessing how many points a few extra seconds may add.
AFT Plank Execution: Official Grading Rules (ATP 7-22.01)
The score is based on the time accepted and recorded by the grader. This calculator does not determine whether a practice repetition satisfies every administration rule. For a record test, use the current test instructions, listen to the grader’s commands, and treat the recorded official time as the calculator input.
Plank — Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum Plank duration to pass the AFT?
For ages 17–21, the 60-point time is 1:30 for both men and women. Select another age group in the calculator to see its exact floor.
What duration gets 100 points on the Plank?
For ages 17–21, 100 points requires 3:40 for both men and women. Other age groups have different maximum-score times.
What form mistakes terminate the Plank attempt?
The event ends when the grader records the time under the current administration rules. This tool scores that recorded time; it cannot validate body position from a self-timed practice hold.
Why did the Army replace the Leg Tuck with the Plank?
Yes. The plank replaced the leg tuck before the Army transitioned from the ACFT to the five-event AFT. The current test retains the plank and scores it by age and sex.
