Standing Power Throw Scoring Table

This compact benchmark table shows the exact minimum distance that produced at least 60, 70 or 100 points under the Army's March 23, 2022 ACFT scales. Some rounded 0.1-meter results skipped individual point values; “70” therefore means the shortest distance worth 70 points or more.

What This Historical Chart Shows

The Standing Power Throw measured a backward overhead throw with a 10-pound medicine ball. The better valid throw was recorded to the nearest 0.1 meter, and that distance mapped to an age- and sex-specific point value. This calculator performs a direct table lookup rather than estimating between the 60- and 100-point marks. It is retained to interpret older scorecards and personal results; it must not be applied to a current AFT.

Standing Power Throw Score Example

For a male aged 17–21, 6.0 m was worth 60 points, 8.2 m was worth 70 points and 12.6 m was worth 100 points. A 5.9 m throw mapped to 57 points because the published scale had no separately reachable 58- or 59-point distance after rounding to tenths of a meter.

Historical Scoring Source

The calculator and benchmark table use the U.S. Army ACFT scoring scales dated March 23, 2022. That date matters: earlier developmental ACFT versions used different standards, so compare an old scorecard with the scale that applied on its test date.

How the SPT Factors Into Your ACFT Composite Score

The Standing Power Throw contributed up to 100 points to the 600-point ACFT composite. Subtracting an old SPT point value from an old total yields only a historical five-event subtotal; it does not convert the remaining performances to current AFT points. The legacy subtotal tool keeps that limitation explicit.

Current Status

The current AFT consists of deadlift, hand-release push-ups, Sprint-Drag-Carry, plank, and the two-mile run. For current policy and the designated Combat specialties as of September 2026, see the official U.S. Army AFT page.

Standing Power Throw — Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum SPT distance to pass the ACFT?

Historical minimums varied by age and sex. This table is for interpreting a retired ACFT event, not passing a current AFT.

How is the SPT scored — in centimeters or meters?

SPT distance was recorded in meters to one decimal place. This calculator accepts that recorded distance and returns the corresponding point value from the March 23, 2022 table.

Is the SPT still part of the Army Fitness Test (AFT)?

No. The Standing Power Throw was removed when the Army transitioned from the 6-event ACFT to the current 5-event Army Fitness Test (AFT). The AFT consists of: Maximum Deadlift (MDL), Hand-Release Push-Up (HRP), Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC), Plank (PLK), and 2-Mile Run (2MR). Soldiers who took the ACFT before the transition may still see SPT scores in their records, and this calculator provides a reference for those historical records.

Is this chart valid for a current AFT?

No. The current five-event AFT does not include the Standing Power Throw.
