Army AFT Promotion Points Calculator
Enter a valid five-event Army Fitness Test total from 300 to 500. This Army promotion points calculator returns the exact 1–120 point value in the current AFT conversion table, including the correct five-point score band.
How an AFT Score Converts to Promotion Points
AR 600-8-19, dated 6 March 2026, lists the AFT conversion in Table 3-4. The table applies a published point value to the Soldier's five-event total; it is not a percentage calculation and it is not the old six-event ACFT conversion.
The lookup works as follows:
- A passing total from 300–304 earns 1 promotion point.
- Most of the table advances in five-point AFT bands and three-point promotion increments: 350–354 earns 30, 400–404 earns 60, and 450–454 earns 90.
- A score from 495–499 earns 117 points. A perfect 500 earns the 120-point maximum.
- A total below 300 is not a passing AFT total and this calculator returns zero promotion points.
AFT Score-to-Promotion-Point Examples
Use the exact band containing the total score. Do not interpolate within a band.
| AFT total | Promotion points | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| 300–304 | 1 | First passing conversion band |
| 350–354 | 30 | Same award anywhere inside the band |
| 400–404 | 60 | Mid-table example |
| 450–454 | 90 | Next increase begins at 455 |
| 500 | 120 | Maximum AFT and promotion-point value |
Permanent Profiles and Alternate Events
For promotion-score treatment, keep the actual score for every event performed. Enter 60 points for each waived event and for a passed authorized alternate aerobic event. Add those five entries to create the AFT composite used in Table 3-4. Do not average the events taken and do not multiply that average to create a 500-point total.
Example: a Soldier scores 72, 68, 75 and 70 on four performed events and has one waived event. The promotion composite is 72 + 68 + 75 + 70 + 60 = 345. A total of 345–349 converts to 27 promotion points.
Using the Result Correctly
This page performs the Table 3-4 arithmetic only. It does not establish whether a test is valid, whether a record has posted to IPPS-A, whether the Soldier is otherwise promotable, or what the monthly cutoff score will be. Check the official personnel record and current promotion guidance before relying on the number for a packet.
