A 350 AFT score can be a useful result, depending on your required standard and the points in each event. It reaches 70% of the 500-point maximum, but that percentage alone doesn't tell you whether you passed. Use our AFT score calculator to check the five event scores before deciding what your next target should be.

Is a 350 AFT Score Good or Just Passing?

For an ordinary five-event test, a 350 meets the Combat total minimum and sits 50 points above the General total minimum. The Army's AFT guidance also requires at least 60 points in every event under either standard, so a passing result depends on both the total and the individual scores.

Under General scoring, 350 gives you some room above the overall requirement. Under Combat scoring, it's exactly the required total. If your next overall result drops below 350, you miss that requirement. You might still have room above individual event minimums, depending on how those 350 points are distributed.

Whether you would call that good depends on your goal: a 350 that improves on your previous result can show progress, while someone already scoring 400 may be aiming higher. These are personal training comparisons, separate from the Army's official passing requirements.

Can Two 350 Scores Mean Different Things?

Dividing 350 by five gives an average of 70, although your actual event scores can vary considerably. For example, these point combinations are available in the age 22–26 M/C scoring column:

Example Deadlift Push-ups Sprint-drag-carry Plank Two-mile run Total
Evenly distributed 70 70 70 70 70 350
Three events at minimum 89 81 60 60 60 350
Run below minimum 89 82 60 60 59 350

The first result puts every event 10 points above its minimum, while the second passes both total standards with three events exactly at 60. The third fails because the run scores 59, even though the total remains 350. Your event breakdown therefore shows where your passing result is most vulnerable, which helps you choose a training goal beyond simply raising the total.

How Do You Build Room Above 350?

The next useful target depends on your current performances and the raw-performance thresholds in your applicable column of the official AFT scoring scales.

For instance, in the age 22–26 M/C column, a sprint-drag-carry time of 2:05 earns 70 points, while 1:59 earns 75. If that event improves between those results and your other four scores stay unchanged, a 350 becomes 355. Whether that change is realistic for you depends on your current training and performance.

If an event is at 60, improving it gives you room above its passing minimum. A gain in another event raises the total. However, the event at 60 remains just as close to failing, so it deserves attention when you compare the possible changes and choose your next goal.

How Many Promotion Points Does a 350 AFT Score Earn?

Under the Regular Army and U.S. Army Reserve semi-centralized system, a qualifying record AFT score of 350 earns 30 fitness promotion points for promotion to SGT or SSG. AR 600-8-19, Table 3-4 places scores from 350 through 354 in that band, with 355 through 359 earning 33 points. The regulation requires a passing score in every required event taken.

That makes 355 a useful nearby target if you are looking at promotion value: it adds three promotion points compared with 350. For example, an increase to 351 stays within the same band. You can check another qualifying total with our AFT promotion points calculator, while considering your complete promotion total and eligibility separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does 350 Mean You're in the 70th Percentile?

No. A 350 is 70% of the maximum score. A percentile describes your position within a group, so it would require a suitable score distribution for the population you are comparing with.

Does a 350 AFT Score Prove You Passed the CFT?

No. The Combat Field Test is a separate pass-or-fail test without points under Army Directive 2026-07. You need the separate CFT result to establish whether you passed it.

Does the Same 350 Rule Apply With a Permanent Profile?

Tests with authorized event exemptions follow the requirements for your profile and scoring standard, including any required alternate aerobic event. Your unit can confirm how those requirements apply to your recorded result.
